May was a busy month at Succorfish. We were on the road again visiting Tampa in Florida to attend the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) to showcase our product range to global military representatives.

This is a key event in the global military calendar and a chance for thousands of defence industry personnel to attend speeches and conference events featuring a number of key representatives from the Special Operations Forces.

The keynote this year was in fact delivered by the USSOCOM Commander and Acquisition Executive to provide perspective on challenges facing the special forces in addition to a thoughtful and insightful conference programme full of engaging speakers, Q&A sessions and networking opportunities with defence industry representatives.

We were exhibiting at the conference this year at the busy Blacktree booth. Blacktree is the exclusive reseller for Succorfish into the US defence sector and a key partner in expanding our reach in this area.  Attending SOFIC gave us the chance to present our range of Succorfish products to defence industry representatives interested in how we are always pushing the limits of subsea communication and tracker technology through our SC2, SC3 and new SC4X tools.

One of the real highlights of the conference this year would have to be the Trellisware Technologies networking event and after show party, Trellisware have changed the way the modern soldier is able to communicate, or as they put it “….redefine the ‘edge’ of wireless networks to solve the most difficult communications challenges”.  We not only had a great time at the party but we made some valuable connections pertinent to Succorfish products.

It was also really inspiring to see other leaders from the subsea technology sector represented at SOFIC.   Blueprint Subsea, an independently owned UK business attended SOFIC to showcase their range of subsea diver navigation products which is truly phenomenal in both capability and size and it was great to share experiences with the team during the 4-day event.

SOFIC was also a great opportunity for us to launch SC4X to market as the newest addition to our growing product range. SC4X is the pioneering subsea communication device allowing divers to communicate wirelessly with one another to a distance of up to 3km using short burst messaging techniques. The product has attracted worldwide interest due to the lack of innovation in supporting subsea teams with the ability to communicate meaningfully with one another during operations and tactical manoeuvres.   Given the applications of the device for Special Operations Forces, SC4X was naturally a big hit amongst visitors to the Succorfish booth.

Of course SOFIC wasn’t just networking and watching military demonstrations. For us, it was also a chance to catch up with some of the other select organisations to attend the exclusive TE-18 event held by the United States Special Operations Command in late 2017.

Succorfish representatives attended the showcase to test the capabilities of SC4X to key personnel as part of the Technical Experimentation Event in Florida, an invitation only event held by US Special Forces. TE-18 was focused on combat swimmer, diver and human performance – clearly a natural fit for showcasing the world-leading subsea communications capabilities of SC4X for combat diving teams.

SOFIC is now over for 2018 and the team are safely back in the UK ready to put the information gathered at the conference straight into product development and research. Watch this space!
